How Our Canvases Are Made
Our canvases are hand-constructed by stretching the canvas around the frames, which is then tacked securely at the back. Each canvas is supplied with corner keys (wedges) which are used, along with the precisely made mitred, tongue & groove corner joints to expand the stretcher frame in very small increments to apply tension to the canvas. In time, all canvases will absorb some moisture and start to sag therefore, if the stretcher frame is not keyed to enable this to take place, the entire piece would have to be restretched.
UV Light-Fast UltraChrome Ink
The inks penetrate deep into the canvas rather than sitting on top of it. We use Ultra Chrome inks and a 7-ink system. This technology optimises the print density and the penetrating pigment inks are engineered to deliver incredible print quality and colour brilliance rivalling that of dye based inks, with a light fastness rating of up to 82 years. The wide colour gamut of these inks, combined with the evenly milled microencapsulated pigments enable us to produce the very best in canvas prints.
100% Natural Cotton Canvas
It stretches beautifully and develops a high-level of water fastness. The true fine art texture along with the semi-matt finish creates colour vibrancy and gives them a feeling of being virtual works of art.
Solid Wood Frames
Our frames are constructed using professional gallery wrap stretcher bars, made from solid wood (not MDF) which is kiln dried to an 8% moisture content. The bars are 1 ˝ inches deep and specially designed to ensure that the canvas does not develop an imprint or ‘ghost impression’ from the frame. The rounded back edges reduce surface friction and allow for a smoother, tighter draw on the canvas.
Packaging & Collection or Delivery
We take every care when packing up your canvases to ensure they reach you in perfect condition. The individual canvases are wrapped in cellophane, then packed carefully in corrugated cardboard. Various delivery options are available, or you can opt to collect your order from our York location, where all our canvases are made.
